New contracts give Calztec double delight

We are proud to announce we have secured two new projects and are excited to collaborate with new clients, Gerald Eve and Chadwick Business Centre.

The first contract

New client to Calztec, Gerald Eve, awarded the strip out and refurbishment packages at a fire damaged building in Long Marston. The project includes: the removal of all existing external cladding, roof cladding, rainwater goods and electrical services to expose the steel frame.

The next phase includes the clean down, preparation and redecoration of the steel frame and install new cladding side rails and a new single skin profiled metal cladding.

We have also been instructed to install single skin profiled metal roof cladding along with Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) roof lights and trimline gutters and downpipes.

The second contract

Calztec is also pleased to be awarded a strip out and fit out scheme for a second new client, Chadwick Business Centre at Radcliffe House in Solihull. On completion, we will provide a contemporary new office space designed to a high-end finish.

James Haslam, founder and C.E.O. of Calztec has been hailed as Young Entrepreneur of the Year after emerging triumphant at the BizX 2022 awards ceremony.

The awards honour the accomplishments, achievements, values and contributions of businesses and their owners from across the United Kingdom.

The prestigious title was presented by Brad Sugars, Chairman of Action Coach and James was interviewed live on stage by Claire Balding OBE, BBC Head of BBC Sport.

James Haslam, C.E.O., Calztec, said: “I am very proud to win this award in such amazing company. We have some incredible team members who work hard to implement our business strategy and help make Calztec a success. I’d like to thank them for the effort they put in; their contribution has made winning this award possible.”

As part of Bromsgrove business recycling month, which runs from 18th March (Global recycling day) until 22nd April (Earth Day), we are promoting our ongoing environmental initiatives designed to ensure we improve our carbon footprint.

The month-long campaign is the brainchild of Bromsgrove District Council’s Business Waste Team which is actively encouraging more businesses to sign up for recycling services.

Environmental initiatives

Our environmental management system is ISO 14001 certified, providing confidence that our operations are fully compliant with legislation, whilst minimising our impact on the environment.
To reduce the need for printing and support our goal of operating a paperless office, we have invested a lot of resources into new software implementation. We use project management software, Procore, to provide clients with detailed digital reports and real time information.
We have acquired our first electric vehicle. Investing in a cleaner fleet of powered vehicles is another route to enhancing our environmental strategy.
Other initiatives we have adopted, include: procuring materials from suppliers located within a short distance from each of our projects, all metal and cardboard from our sites and head office are being recycled and we refined our ordering process to stop overordering and reduce waste going to landfill.

With the construction, demolition and excavation (CDE) sectors generating around 119.4m tonnes of UK waste accounting for 62% in 2018, Sophie Clarke, C.O.O., Calztec, feels more can be done to significantly reduce the figure. “By introducing a range of environmental initiatives, we are not just playing our part, we are demonstrating to the rest of the industry what can be achieved when it comes to sustainability. This is only the start of our journey, and we are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint.”

As part of our drive to become more environmentally considerate, we have acquired our first TESLA to join our fleet of vehicles.

In 2020, Tesla customers helped accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy by avoiding 5.0 million metric tons of CO2e emissions. For companies like Calztec, with a desire to reduce their impact on the environment, investing in a cleaner fleet of vehicles is the route to a successful environmental strategy.

As we look to upgrade our existing fleet and battery technology becomes longer-lasting, I see electric vehicles as the number one choice.

We are proud to announce we have been named for the first time as an SME of the Year finalist at the 2022 West Midlands Constructing Excellence Awards.

The hotly contested title will be presented to the SME that has achieved business change across all areas of the company, including: investment made in employees, supply chain engagement, adopting best practise and improving customer satisfaction.

Sophie Clarke, C.O.O., Calztec, said: “To be recognised at the Constructing Excellence West Midlands Awards 2022 is a great honour.

We are thrilled to announce that Calztec has been named as a High Growth Business of the Year finalist at the 2022 FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards, West Midlands region.

James Haslam, Calztec C.E.O. has also been shortlisted in the Young Entrepreneur category.

The awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of small businesses and the self-employed across the UK. The winners from each category will be put forward to the UK final and have a chance to be crowned the UK Small Business of the Year.

We have completed a refurbishment and fit out project at Lancaster House within central Birmingham.

The iconic portland stone office building offers 3,680.70 sq. m (39,619 sq. ft) of floor space on the edge of Birmingham’s central business district.

Appointed as principal contractor by MAPP, we delivered a range of design & fit out works across 4 no. floors, including new ceilings, replacement of full mechanical and air conditioning, new flooring, replacement of kitchens to offices, decoration and new electrical upgrade and LED lighting throughout.

James Haslam, Calztec, CEO, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with MAPP and have the opportunity to demonstrate our technical expertise. We were privileged to be asked by Sarah Webb to work on such an historic and interesting building and we look forward to working with MAPP again on the next project.”
