We are excited to announce that, due to our continued growth and expansion plans, we have acquired a new headquarters. We were delighted when the building became available and jumped at the chance to make our mark.

The new office, which is a short drive from our previous base in Wildmoor, will allow us to grow the team further and enable us to better serve our customers.

Sophie Clarke, Caltec C.O.O., said: ”The expansion is an opportunity for us to build on our Core Values of Collaboration and Efficiency, as the office team will come together on one floor where they can increase collaboration, and the site team will have a better organised space to store equipment and materials so that works can be well planned ahead of time.”

We are delighted to announce that Giavanni Edwards has joined the team as a full-time Project Assistant, having completed his 6-month Kickstart internship.

The Kickstart Scheme was a programme launched by the UK government to provide funding to create new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

During his 6-month internship, Giavanni has embraced the opportunity presented to him by the scheme, learning new skills, gaining valuable experience, and working hard to secure full-time employment.

We are celebrating after landing an internationally recognised award for demonstrating high health and safety standards.

We received a RoSPA Silver Health and Safety Award for working hard to ensure our staff, clients and contractors get home safely to their families at the end of every working day.

Organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice. Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants compete to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running H&S industry awards.

The team has now completed the CAT A transformation of the grade II listed Christchurch House located in Birmingham’s central business district, fronting Victoria Square.
The works consisted of:

Strip out of the existing office space
Decoration throughout
New suspended ceilings
Lighting and CCTV
An overhaul of the ventilation system
Bathroom upgrades
Shower facilities
Installation of period features and fittings

Calztec is pleased to announce Lucy Marshall has been appointed as a contracts manager. The new addition reflects the company’s exciting future growth plans.

Lucy has over 30 years of site experience within the construction industry managing a range of projects up to the value of £4million. She is a fully qualified Construction Site and Project Manager and holds and values her professional memberships with: IOSH, CIBSE and CIOB.

Before joining Calztec, Lucy was a visiting lecturer within the faculty of computing, engineering and the built environment at Birmingham City University, teaching and supporting the next generation to achieve their aspirations within the construction industry.

Speaking about the appointment, James Haslam, Calztec C.E.O, said: “I am delighted to welcome Lucy to the Project Management team. Her knowledge and experience, along with her background in accountancy, will be extremely valuable to our clients and supply chain. I am more than confident Lucy will help improve our project delivery across all our exciting, upcoming projects.”

We are extremely proud to be named as a finalist in the Specialist Contractor of the Year (turnover up to £25m) category of the prestigious Construction News Specialist Awards 2022.

The judges recognised Calztec for demonstrating a clear strategy and vision and exceeding their business objectives regarding health and safety performance, outstanding project delivery, client satisfaction, innovation, employee development and training and sustainability.

The Construction News Specialists Awards are now in their 18th year and are the only national awards recognising the outstanding achievements of specialist contractors.

To decide the winners, all finalists will now attend face-to-face judging, where the judges will evaluate their achievements of each finalist and decide a winner.

Sophie Clarke, Calztec C.O.O., said: “We are delighted and very proud to have made it to the finalist stage in the Construction News Specialists Awards. It is always nice to be recognised by our industry peers for our commitment to high standards of quality and safety that makes us a leading industrial and commercial design, fit out and refurbishment specialists.”

We are excited to announce that Calztec has been named SME of the Year at the 2022 West Midlands Constructing Excellence awards.

The fit out and refurbishment specialist won the award for demonstrating business change across all areas of the company, including: investment made in employees, supply chain engagement, adopting best practise and improving customer satisfaction.

The awards took place at a black-tie event at Edgbaston Cricket Club and saw over 500 business leaders come together to celebrate construction in the West Midlands.

As part of Bromsgrove business recycling month, which runs from 18th March (Global recycling day) until 22nd April (Earth Day), we are promoting our ongoing environmental initiatives designed to ensure we improve our carbon footprint.

The month-long campaign is the brainchild of Bromsgrove District Council’s Business Waste Team which is actively encouraging more businesses to sign up for recycling services.

Environmental initiatives

Our environmental management system is ISO 14001 certified, providing confidence that our operations are fully compliant with legislation, whilst minimising our impact on the environment.
To reduce the need for printing and support our goal of operating a paperless office, we have invested a lot of resources into new software implementation. We use project management software, Procore, to provide clients with detailed digital reports and real time information.
We have acquired our first electric vehicle. Investing in a cleaner fleet of powered vehicles is another route to enhancing our environmental strategy.
Other initiatives we have adopted, include: procuring materials from suppliers located within a short distance from each of our projects, all metal and cardboard from our sites and head office are being recycled and we refined our ordering process to stop overordering and reduce waste going to landfill.

With the construction, demolition and excavation (CDE) sectors generating around 119.4m tonnes of UK waste accounting for 62% in 2018, Sophie Clarke, C.O.O., Calztec, feels more can be done to significantly reduce the figure. “By introducing a range of environmental initiatives, we are not just playing our part, we are demonstrating to the rest of the industry what can be achieved when it comes to sustainability. This is only the start of our journey, and we are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint.”

We are proud to announce we have been named for the first time as an SME of the Year finalist at the 2022 West Midlands Constructing Excellence Awards.

The hotly contested title will be presented to the SME that has achieved business change across all areas of the company, including: investment made in employees, supply chain engagement, adopting best practise and improving customer satisfaction.

Sophie Clarke, C.O.O., Calztec, said: “To be recognised at the Constructing Excellence West Midlands Awards 2022 is a great honour.

“We’ve always striven to operate a business based on continuous development and improvement, and have made this our focus throughout 2021. We invested back into the business through training, marketing, accreditations, systems, new services and processes and the hard work has paid off.”

The finalists from across the West Midlands were selected by a panel of expert judges, with the winners announced at an awards dinner to be held on the 12th May at Edgbaston Cricket Club.

After being appointed as the main contractor on MAPP’s Christchurch House to carry out a CAT A fit out with contemporary finish, we have made huge progress on the project as it has now been stripped and is moving forward with decoration and installation of the key components.

The building itself is a listed building located within central Birmingham. The refurbishment works will consist of decoration throughout, new flooring, new suspended ceilings, lighting and CCTV, an overhaul of the ventilation system, bathroom upgrades, shower facilities and the installation of period features and fittings.
