Demand for storage and distribution capacity will outstrip supply unless speculative development returns to pre-Covid-19 levels. This is according to Savills’ forecasting warehouse demand report.
We’ve taken a look and the highlights for the UK are:
- During the last 5 years, the UK has attracted £148bn of private manufacturing investment, equating to 26 million sq. ft of warehouse space.
- For every £1bn of UK manufacturing investment made, an additional 175,000 sq. ft of warehouse space is required
- Demand is predicted to increase by 13% in 2021 and 3% by 2022.
- A further 15.5m sq. ft of space will be required by the end of 2022.
