Design & Build of a Multi-Disciplinary Community Hub
Calztec was appointed to design and deliver The Fred Winter Centre – an ambitious, flagship development created to bring together housing, healthcare, business support and community services under one roof.
The brief was to create a truly inclusive, multi-functional environment that would serve charities, local businesses, healthcare providers, individuals in need of support and the wider public. Through a collaborative design and build approach, Calztec transformed the vision into a modern, purpose-built community hub that provides high-quality facilities for every user.
The development incorporates a wide range of specialist spaces, including a fully equipped commercial kitchen and community café, private offices, collaborative workspaces, self-contained apartments, healthcare facilities, a food bank, bespoke music room and accessible communal areas. Two disabled access lifts ensure every part of the building is fully inclusive, while carefully planned layouts encourage interaction between the building’s diverse users.
The project required careful coordination across multiple disciplines, with Calztec managing every stage of the construction programme to ensure the facility met the highest standards of quality, accessibility and functionality. Every space was designed with longevity, flexibility and community benefit in mind, creating an environment capable of supporting a wide range of organisations and services for years to come.
Today, The Fred Winter Centre stands as a landmark community development, providing affordable accommodation, support services and collaborative workspaces that positively impact the lives of hundreds of people. The completed building demonstrates Calztec’s ability to successfully deliver complex, mixed-use developments that combine commercial, residential and community facilities within a single cohesive project.

The Brief
